2010 Bantam Draft Order

Calgary, AB – The WHL Bantam Draft lottery was held at the WHL Office in Calgary to determine the order of the first six selections in the first round of the 2010 WHL Bantam Draft.

The WHL Bantam Draft Lottery involved the six non-playoff teams (Edmonton, Lethbridge, Prince Albert, Prince George, Regina and Seattle) from the 2009-10 season.

The Lottery selection process was performed by Andy Mark from KPMG. The 2010 WHL Bantam Draft will be held in Edmonton on Thursday, April 29, 2010.

A Prince George Cougars ball was drawn first in the lottery, giving the Cougars the first overall selection in the 2010 WHL Bantam Draft. The Edmonton Oil Kings will receive the second pick in the first round. The Lethbridge Hurricanes will select third.

This will be the highest the Oil Kings have ever selected a player in the WHL Bantam Draft. The Oil Kings previous first round selections include Mark Pysyk (3rd Overall) in 2007, Michael St. Croix (4th Overall) in 2008, and Griffin Reinhart (3rd Overall) in 2009. St. Croix lead the Oil Kings in scoring this season with 46 points in 66 games as a 16 year old and was named the team's Top Rookie. Mark Pysyk's season ended abruptly due to injury but he lead all defencemen in scoring with 24 points in 48 games and was named the team's MVP, Top Defenseman and Scholastic Player Of The Year. Pysyk is currently ranked 9th among North American skaters eligible for this summer's NHL Entry Draft in Los Angeles.

The Seattle Thunderbirds will have the fourth pick overall while the Regina Pats and the Prince Albert Raiders will draft in the fifth and sixth positions respectively.

The order of the second round and all other rounds will be the inverse order of final 2009-10 WHL regular-season standings.

Players eligible for the 2010 WHL Bantam Draft will be 1995-born players who reside in Alberta, B.C., Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Northwest Territories, Yukon, Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Kansas, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.
