Kamloops, BC – The Edmonton Oil Kings wrapped up their B.C. road trip Saturday night with a 5 – 2 loss to the Blazers in Kamloops. Former Edmonton Oil King Cam Lanigan foiled his old team making 21 stops for his sixth win of the season. His counterpart Laurent Brossoit turned in a solid performance despite the loss finishing with 41 saves on the night.
Edmonton will finish their B.C. swing with a record of 1 – 2 – 0 – 1 and will return home to the friendly confines of Rexall Place for 4 of their next 6 games.
The Blazers built up a 3 nothing lead through two periods thanks to a pair of powerplay goals and lots of rubber thrown at Brossoit. Kamloops outshot Edmonton 22 – 1 in the middle frame but couldn’t pull away until the later stages of the game.
The Oil Kings mounted a bit of a comeback in the third period with a shorthanded, unassisted goal from Keegan Lowe at 5:15 and Kristians Pelss with a rising shot from a bad angle that beat Lanigan high to the blocker side. However, the comeback was snuffed out a few minutes later when the Blazers tallied two goals just :42 seconds apart.
4 games in 5 nights resulted in a short bench for the Oil Kings with both Griffin Reinhart and Klarc Wilson not able to go for Edmonton. The team will have 5 full days off to rest up, recover and prepare for the Prince Albert Raiders Friday, November 18th. It’s Military Night presented by ATB Financial with some very special guests. Oilers Jordan Eberle, Taylor Hall, Ryan Smyth, Devan Dubnyk and Sam Gagner will all be at the game to unofficially launch the World Junior bobblehead series.
