It's Finally Here!
Edmonton, AB - The WHL Champion Edmonton Oil Kings will have plenty to look forward to this weekend with five prospects ranked for the 2012 NHL Entry Draft in Pittsburgh.
The first round of the 2012 NHL draft goes tonight at 5PM MDT with two of the Oil Kings top prospects projected to go as high as the first round - Defenseman Griffin Reinhart and forward Henrik Samuelsson. The Oil Kings boast three other ranked prospects in forward Mitch Moroz and defensemen Ashton Sautner and Cody Corbett. The Oil Kings had a franchise record four players selected at last summer’s NHL Entry Draft in Minnesota. Two players happened to go in consecutive picks in the third round with the Carolina Hurricanes selecting Keegan Lowe with the 73rd pick and the Edmonton Oilers choosing Travis Ewanyk with the 74th pick. The next to go was Michael St. Croix in the 4th round, 106th overall to the New York Rangers. The Calgary Flames then selected goaltender Laurent Brossoit in the 6th round with the 164th pick.
Edmonton's highest NHL draft pick in the modern era is two year Captain Mark Pysyk, selected 23rd overall in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft by the Buffalo Sabres. The Oil Kings first ever NHL draft pick in the modern era was Dallas Stars pick Tomas Vincour selected 129th overall in the 2009 NHL draft.
