King Slayers: Oil Kings Thresh Wheaties for 11th Straight Win

Brandon, MB - The Oil Kings matched a franchise high extending their winning streak to 11 with a 6-2 win over the Wheat Kings on Friday. The victory marks the third time in the modern era the Oil Kings have posted an 11 game winning streak in the regular season. Edmonton improved their overall record to 41-11-2-3 with 15 regular season games remaining.
The defending WHL Champions are 11 points ahead of Calgary for top spot in the Eastern Conference and rank second in the entire WHL. Edmonton is six points back of the Portland Winterhawks in the race for the 2013 WHL regular season title.
Dylan Wruck led the way with a three point night and Curtis Lazar notched a pair of goals for the visiting Oil Kings. Henrik Samuelsson was dominant once again with a goal and an assist. He is now tied with Wruck for the team lead with 70 points and tied with Lazar for the team lead with 29 goals. In his last 10 games, Samuelsson has posted five goals and 14 assists and now resides in the top 10 of the WHL scoring race.
Michael St.Croix & Travis Ewanyk and tallied the other Oil Kings goals while Tristan Jarry made 24 saves to record his second win in as many nights. Jarry's record improved to 15-5-0-0 with a WHL best 1.56 GAA and a 0.938 save percentage. The Oil Kings have allowed the least number of goals in the WHL and have held the opposition to two or fewer goals in 39 of their 57 games this season.
Edmonton's number one ranked power play was 2 for 5 on the night and is a combined 9 for 19 on this current road trip. St.Croix continues to lead the WHL with 18 power play goals and Wruck added his WHL leading 31st power play assist.
The Oil Kings will play the final game of this five game road trip on Sunday as they take on the Swift Current Broncos. This will be the final of four games between the Broncos and Oil Kings in 2012-13. Edmonton holds a 3-0-0-0 record over the Broncos this season. Game time from the Credit Union I-Plex in "Speedy Creek" is set for 6:00 p.m. MST. All games this season will be broadcast live on the TEAM 1260 and streamed live at WHL.ca.
The Oil Kings will finally return to Rexall Place on Sunday, February 17th to take on the Victoria Royals. It will be the final Family Fun Sunday of the season presented by Motts Fruitsations and the Edmonton Sun.
