Musil Sinks Raiders in Overtime

Prince Albert, AB – Oilers draft pick David Musil was the overtime hero as the Oil Kings scored a 4-3 come from behind victory over the Raiders on Tuesday.  The Oil Kings second overtime win of the season extended their current winning streak to nine.  With the victory Edmonton has built a 13 point lead over Calgary for the top spot in the Eastern Conference.

Musil’s game winner came on the Oil Kings’ 52nd shot of the game as they dominated play but struggled to beat Prince Albert goaltender Luke Siemens.  The overtime winner capped three unanswered goals for the Oil Kings who trailed 3-1 midway through the final period of regulation.  Michael St.Croix’s league leading 17th power play goal pulled Edmonton to within one with eight minutes to play.  Stephane Legault would then notch the game tying goal just a minute and nineteen seconds later.  Mitch Moroz scored the other Edmonton marker as the Oil Kings outshot the Raiders 52-29 in a thrilling back and forth game.

Edmonton goaltender Laurent Brossoit had 26 saves this game to raise his record to 26-6-2-3. The Oil Kings top ranked power play was 1 for 3 on the night while the WHL’s number one ranked penalty kill was 3 for 4.  Edmonton’s overall record moves to 39-11-2-3 with a record of 16-6-1-1 on the road.

The Oil Kings will play the third game of a five game road trip on Thursday night as they take on the Regina Pats.  This will be the second of four games between the Pats and Oil Kings in 2012-13.  In their only previous meeting this season the Oil Kings skated to an 8-1 win on December 16th at Rexall Place.  Game time from the Brandt Centre in Regina is set for 6:00 p.m. MST.  All games this season will be broadcast live on the TEAM 1260 and streamed live at WHL.ca.
