Kamloops, BC - The Edmonton Oil Kings are well represented at the U17 Team Pacific Camp which kicked off this Wednesday in Kamloops, BC. Sis Oil Kings prospects including forward Mitchell Walter and defensemen Aaron Irving, Dysin Mayo, Mitch Meek, Logan Mick and Brett Pollock are attending the 68 person camp.

Players are competing for one of the spots on Team Pacific to compete at Hockey Canada’s World U17 Hockey Challenge to be held December 28, 2012 - January 4, 2013 in Victoriaville and Drummondville, Quebec. The World U17 Hockey Challenge consists of four other Canadian teams (West, Ontario, Quebec and Atlantic) and five other national teams from the USA, Slovakia, Russia, Czech Republic and Finland.

Team Pacific will be comprised of the top 22 players from the Pacific region. Each province (B.C. and Alberta) held programming to identify 34 players (4 G, 12 D, 18 F) to move on to the Team Pacific Camp. This camp runs from July 25-29. From here players will be scouted with their club team until the top 22 players are named to Team Pacific in November.

The Under 17 program is the first step in Hockey Canada’s Program of Excellence. Many players who compete at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge go on to represent Canada with the National Men’s Under 18 Team, National Junior Team and National Men’s Team.

Oil Kings Associate Coach Steve Hamilton is serving as an Assistant Coach while Oil Kings Head Athletic Therapist Brian Cheeseman is serving as the team Athletic Therapist.

Hamilton has been an Assistant Coach with the Edmonton Oil Kings since 2010 and this season was promoted to Associate this summer. Prior to this position he was the Head Coach/General Manger of the Spruce Grove Saints of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL). He has served as a camp coach for Hockey Alberta in the U17 program as well as serving as a presenter at coach development sessions.

Cheeseman is entering his fourth year in the Western Hockey League and third with the Edmonton Oil Kings. He began in the WHL with the Tri City Americans in the 09-10 season. Prior to this Cheeseman attended Sheridan College in Brampton, ON. He has served as the Team Alberta Under-17 camp therapist.

Both Hamilton and Cheeseman were a part of the 2011-2012 Oil Kings who brought home the modern day franchise's first WHL Championship this past season.
