Oil Kings Bust the Broncos on Pink at The Rink Night

Feb 01, 2013 - 23:21 GMT

Edmonton, AB - Laurent Brossoit notched his third shutout of the season to lead the Oil Kings to a 3-0 win over the visiting Swift Current Broncos on Friday.  The shutout was Brossoit's eighth of his career as he added to his Oil Kings modern franchise record.  With the win the Oil Kings extended their lead to nine points over the second place Hitmen for top spot in the Eastern Conference.  The victory was the Oil Kings seventh in a row as they currently hold the longest winning streak in the WHL. Edmonton has allowed more than two goals only once in their last 15 games with six shutouts over that span.

Edmonton's number one ranked penalty kill shut down Swift Current’s highly touted power play as the Broncos went 0 for 2 with the man advantage.  Brossoit posted 23 saves to raise his record to 24-6-2-3 this season with a 2.13 GAA and a 0.924 save percentage.  “LB” is coming off an amazing January in which he posted a 7-2-0-0 record with a 1.35 GAA, a 0.957 save percentage and a pair of shutouts.

Pink at The Rink presented by Elite Sportswear & Awards raised over $35000 dollars in support of three local charities.  The Compassion House Foundation, the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation and the Alberta Cancer Foundation will all receive proceeds from this event.  The Oil Kings would like to thank all of the fans, volunteers and charity partners who helped to make this night a success.
