Edmonton, AB - A late charge including three unanswered goals earned the Oil Kings a single point in a 4-3 overtime loss to the Prince Albert Raiders on Saturday. The single point moved the Kings into sole possession of first place in the Central division.
The Oil Kings were charged up in their return to Rexall Place out shooting the visiting Raiders 14-4 in the first frame. But Prince Albert capitalized on their chances to build a 2-0 lead after the first on goals by Leon Draisaitl and Mike Winther. Prince Albert then pushed it to 3-0 as Carson Perreaux tallied just two minutes into the second. The Kings continued to pour on the pressure in the period but were repeatedly turned away by Prince Albert goaltender Luke Siemens.
Finally, Cody Corbett tallied with just 14 seconds remaining in the second to open the scoring for the home side. Corbett would put a wrister from the point top shelf for his 1st of the season and 11th point. David Musil would then pull the Oil Kings to within one as he tallied his 4th of the season midway through the third. Musil wired a low point shot through traffic for his first goal at Rexall Place in an Oil Kings jersey. Musil and Corbett remain tied for the Oil Kings team lead in scoring by a defenseman.
Michael St.Croix added some late game heroics as he finished a great play from Henrik Samuelsson to tie the game 3-3. Samuelsson drew Siemens and made a cross crease pass to St.Croix who roofed a shot for his team leading 13th goal of the season.
Edmonton held the momentum but the Raiders capitalized on a tough bounce in the crease to take the 4-3 OT win. The overtime loss dropped the Oil Kings record to 13-5-2-2 on the season. Edmonton out shot the Raiders 50-22 as the power play went 0 for 3 on the night. The Kings penalty kill was a perfect 4 for 4 and has not allowed a power play goal against in seven games.
