Regina, SK – Dylan Wruck and newly-acquired Mark Reners each tallied two points as the Edmonton Oil Kings cruised past the Regina Pats 4-1 on Friday night at the Brandt Centre.

With the victory, the Oil Kings swept the season series against the Eastern Conference rival Pats, winning all four games between the two teams. The matchup wasn't even close either, as Edmonton outscored Regina 27-8 during the four games, with Friday's tilt being the closest.

The Pats actually held a brief 1-0 lead on Friday, as former Oil King Shayne Neigum fired a wrist shot past hand-cuffed Edmonton goalie Jon Groenheyde four minutes into the first period. Jordan Hickmott netted the equalizer three minutes later, though, sliding a low shot past Regina goalie Matt Hewitt.

Mike Piluso scored the Oil Kings' eventual game-winner before the midway point in the opening frame, as Travis Ewanyk found him on the doorstep to make it 2-1. T.J. Foster roofed a shot from in close on Hewitt on the power play for the lone goal of the middle frame to make it 3-1.

And Reners closed out the scoring early in the third with his first goal and third point in two games since getting traded to Edmonton from the Vancouver Giants last Sunday. Wruck picked up his second helper of the night on the fourth goal and extended his point streak to nine games, while Groenheyde recorded 19 saves on a quiet night between the pipes to pick up the victory.

The Oil Kings improved to 21-19-0-2 by sweeping the Pats on Friday and sit alone in seventh place in the Eastern Conference with 44 points, just one point back of the sixth-place Swift Current Broncos, who have also played four more games than Edmonton. The Oil Kings have won 14 of their last 21 games.

The Oil Kings are now one game into a four-game road trip, as they battle the Brandon Wheat Kings on Saturday, Moose Jaw Warriors on Sunday and Kootenay Ice on Tuesday to conclude the voyage. They return home for 70’s Night against Moose Jaw on Friday, Jan. 21 and Minor Hockey Night versus the Medicine Hat Tigers on Saturday, Jan. 22, both at 7 p.m. at Rexall Place.

Hockey's original Hollywood goons highlight 70's Night next Friday against Moose Jaw, as the Hanson Brothers from the movie "Slap Shot" will be the Oil Kings' special guests. The three most feared players on the Charlestown Chiefs will be in attendance, and fans can win an exclusive VIP meet-and-greet with the brothers on the Oil Kings' official Facebook fan page.
