Edmonton, AB - The Oil Kings notched six unanswered goals to post a 6-1 win over the Cougars on Sunday at Rexall Place. With the win the Oil Kings snapped their two game losing streak and took back top spot in the WHL Eastern Conference. With a record of 31-11-2-3 the Oil Kings currently hold a one point lead over the Calgary Hitmen.

The Cougars opened the scoring 9:21 into the first as the Oil Kings found themselves in penalty trouble early. Colin Jacobs tallied on a 5 on 3 Cougars power play to give Prince George their only lead of the game. But the Oil Kings would find an equalizer after killing off the third Cougars power play of the period. Michael St.Croix made a great feed to Trevor Cheek in the slot who finished the play for his 20th of the season. Edmonton would press on a late man advantage to draw a second penalty for a 5 on 3 power play of their own to end the period.

Early in the second, Curtis Lazar scored the eventual game winner on the extended power play. Lazar picked a rebound out of the air for his 20th of the season. His 20th goal in 47 games this year matches his career high set last season in 63 games. The power play goal was Edmonton's first in their last three match ups despite leading the WHL with a 26.2 % success rate.

Edmonton made it a 3-1 game midway through the second as Stephane Legault tallied a shorthanded goal. TJ Foster found Legault with a pass behind the Prince George defense for a breakaway chance. Legault backed Cougars netminder Brett Zarowny into his own net as he tucked home his second shorthanded goal of the season.

The hometown Oil Kings broke the game open midway through the third as Henrik Samuelsson took a great back pass from Dylan Wruck and buried his first of the night. Minutes later, Edgars Kulda out worked his man in front of the net and scored his fifth of the year. Kulda currently leads all Oil Kings rookies with 11 points in 2012-13.

Samuelsson would then add his second of the game off a pretty give and go with defenseman Cody Corbett to make it a 6-1 final. The goal was Samuelsson's team leading 24th of the year and marked the Phoenix first round pick's 13th multi point game this season.
