Cranbrook, BC - The Edmonton Oil Kings were shut out for the first time since  March of 2011 as they fell 1-0 to the Kootenay Ice on Sunday. Penalties continued to hinder the Kings attack as they suffered only their third regulation loss of the 2012-13 season.

Edmonton battled through some penalty trouble in what was an otherwise quiet first period. The penalty kill continued to shine going 3 for 3 in the first and finishing the night a perfect 8 for 8. But the Kings power play which entered the night second in the WHL was unable to produce going 0 for 3 on the night.

The second period saw more of the same with neither team able to break the 0-0 stalemate. Oil Kings goalie Tristan Jarry came up with a huge save on a Kootenay power play. That created the Oil Kings best chance of the period for Curtis Lazar and Henrik Samuelsson who were stopped by the Ice's Mackenzie Skapski. Kootenay's Collin Shirley took advantage of a breakdown in the Edmonton zone in the final minute of the period to make it 1-0.

Edmonton struggled to get anything going in the third and a penalty with four minutes to play stifled a late offensive surge. Jarry would finish the night with 21 saves as his record dropped to 1-2-0-0 on the season. The Kings penalty kill has allowed only three power play goals against in their last six games to go 36 for 39 over that span.

Edmonton's record is 5-3-1-1 through their first ten games of the season as they end the weekend second in the central division. Last year at the ten game mark of the season Edmonton held a similar 6-3-0-1 record.

The defending WHL Champions will return to Rexall Place on Wednesday, October 17th to take another of the WHL's elite - the Kamloops Blazers. The Blazers have been the class of the Western Conference with a 9-0-0-1 record. It will be a showdown of CHL BMO Mastercard Top 10 teams with the number 9 ranked Oil Kings welcoming the number 2 ranked Blazers. All games this season will be broadcast live on the TEAM 1260 and streamed live at WHL.ca.
