Edmonton, AB - The Oil Kings took a 4-2 win over the Kootenay Ice in front of a crowd of nearly 10,000 in the Fourth Annual CN Hockey Hooky on Wednesday afternoon.  Edmonton posted three goals in the second period in a span of 1:25.  That's a six game winning streak for the Oil Kings.  With the victory, Edmonton's lead over the Calgary Hitmen for first place in the Eastern Conference is up to seven points.

Rookie Luke Bertolucci led the way with a goal and an assist while T.J. Foster, Cody Corbett and Curtis Lazar scored the other Oil Kings goals.  Rookie Brett Pollock also posted the first multi-point game of his career with a pair of assists.

Bertolucci opened the scoring 7:44 into the first as he rifled a shot under the arm of Kootenay goaltender Wyatt Hoflin.  Despite only scoring a single goal the Oil Kings dominated play in the first as they out-shot the Ice 19-7 in the opening frame.

The home side broke things open in the second period as the explosive Oil Kings offense posted 3 goals in 85 seconds.  Michael St.Croix scooped up a rebound and made a an easy cross crease feed to Foster who tapped in his 21st of the season.  Seven seconds later and Corbett put a shot on net from the wall near the point to notch his 4th of the season.  Lazar finished off the offensive onslaught as he picked up a Henrik Samuelsson rebound in the slot and ripped a shot upstairs to give the Oil Kings a 4-0 lead early in the second.

Kootenay's Joey Leach would tally with six minutes to play in the second frame to break the shut out of Laurent Brossoit.  The Edmonton goaltender posted a 31 save performance as he raised his record to 23-6-2-3 on the year.  In his nine starts in the month of January, "LB" has a 1.35 GAA and 0.957 save percentage.  Brossoit has only allowed more than two goals once in his last 14 games dating back to December 8th.

Kootenay then took advantage of a late 5 on 3 situation for their second goal of the night from Sam Reinhart.  Half of the Oil Kings special teams struggled as the power play went 0 for 5.  But the penalty kill held the Ice to 1 for 5 with the man advantage including a pair of 5 on 3 situations.

CN Hockey Hooky provides educational curriculum along with a one of a kind hockey experience for young people.  Close to 7000 Edmonton area students attended the loudest game of the season.  In total, the event has brought nearly 25,000 kids through the doors of Rexall Place in the past four seasons.

The Edmonton Oil Kings will host another special event at Rexall Place for their February 1st, 2013 match up with the Swift Current Broncos.  It will be the second ever Oil Kings Pink at the Rink presented by Elite Sportswear and Awards.  The Oil Kings will be sporting a brand new look for one night only!  Oil Kings players will wear special pink jerseys and select players will be using limited edition Pink at the Rink hockey sticks.

Both the jerseys and sticks will be auctioned off via silent and live auctions at the game.  Proceeds will go towards Compassion House Foundation, the Canadian Cancer Society, the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation and the Alberta Cancer Foundation.  As an added bonus, Elite Sportswear & Awards will be handing out 1000 pink Oil Kings toques.  All fans at the game will be eligible to receive a toque thanks to the Oil Kings scratch-and-win tickets issued at the doors.
