St.Albert, AB - The Edmonton Oil Kings bounced back from a tough loss on Saturday with a 5-3 win over the Red Deer Rebels on Sunday. The win came in the final game of the 6th Annual Pre-Season Invitational presented by Elite Sportswear & Awards held at Servus Credit Union Place.

Edmonton jumped out to an early lead just 42 seconds into the game with a goal by rookie Brent Pollock. Pollock buried a low snap shot on Red Deer goaltender Bolton Pouliot for his first point of the preseason. The Oil Kings continued to press as rookie Brandon Baddock tallied from the slot off of a nice feed from veteran Klarc Wilson to extend the lead to 2-0. Red Deer would come to life later in the first with a pair of goals 1:03 apart by Connor Bleckley and Trace Elson. Elson's came on a power play to tie the game 2-2 at 12:27 of the first frame.

Several Oil Kings veterans saw their first action of the 2012 Pre-Season including 20-year old T.J. Foster and 19-year old Michael St.Croix. Both Foster and St.Croix would assist on each other's goals in the second period as the Oil Kings took a 4-2 lead into the third.

A Red Deer tally late in the final frame would pull them within striking distance. But the Edmonton defense was able to hold off the Rebels attack with goaltender Tristan Jarry making 18 saves on 21 shots. Rookie Brandon Ralph would bury an empty netter to seal the deal as the defending WHL Champions skated to a 5-3 win.

The Oil Kings preseason roster was shortened by two as 15-year olds Patrick Dea and Andrew Koep were reassigned to AAA midget. This leaves the roster at 30 going into the week as Edmonton prepares for back to pack preseason games against the Prince George Cougars next weekend. Following the road trip to B.C. Edmonton will take on Red Deer in Lacombe, AB to finish the pre-season.
