Oil Kings Take On the Best of the West
Edmonton, AB - The defending WHL Champions return to Rexall Place TONIGHT to take on another of the WHL's elite - the Kamloops Blazers. The Blazers have been the class of the Western Conference this season with a 9-0-0-1 record. It will be a showdown of CHL BMO Mastercard Top 10 teams from last week as the number 9 ranked Oil Kings welcome the number 2 ranked Blazers.
Kamloops was one of the few teams in the WHL who the Oil Kings had a losing record against in 2011-12. Edmonton posted a 0-2-0-0 record against the Blazers with both games in Kamloops. A 5-2 loss on November 12, 2011 and a heartbreaking 3-2 loss on Valentines Day, 2012. Edmonton failed to hold a 2-0 lead going into the third - it was the first time in the 2011-12 season the Oil Kings suffered a regulation loss when leading after the second period. All time the Oil Kings have a 2-5-2-0 record against the Blazers with a 2-2-1-0 record at Rexall Place.
Edmonton's record is 5-3-1-1 through their first ten games of the season as they end the weekend second in the central division. Last year at the ten game mark of the season Edmonton held a similar 6-3-0-1 record.
The Kings are one of two teams in the WHL who boast a Top 5 power play and penalty kill. The penalty kill is ranked first in the WHL and has allowed only three power play goals against in their last six games - 36 for 39 over that span. The power play is ranked 4th in the WHL with a 31.7 % success rate.
