Oil Kings Take OT Win to End Pre-season

Lacombe, AB - Rookie Dysin Mayo tallied his first of the WHL pre-season to give the Oil Kings a 2-1 overtime win over the Red Deer Rebels on Friday Night. With the win the Oil Kings conclude the 2012 WHL pre-season with a record of 3-2-0-0.
Stephane Legault tallied the only goal of the first period to give the Oil Kings a 1-0 lead on the power play. Legault posted career highs in almost every offensive category last season with 15 goals, 24 assists, 39 points and a plus-22 rating. Red Deer would answer back with a power play marker of their own, tying the game 1-1 late in the second off the stick of Colten Mayor.
After a hard fought draw through 60 minutes Mayo notched the game winner with the Oil Kings second power play marker of the game. Edmonton was 2 for 4 with the man advantage while holding the Rebels to 1 for 5.
The Oil Kings outshot the Rebels 37-26 with the championship tandem of Tristan Jarry and Laurent Brossoit splitting time in between the pipes. Jarry would finish the evening with 11 saves on 11 shots while Brossoit made 14 saves on 15.
Edmonton will now shift focus to the WHL regular season opener set for Thursday, September 20th at 7:00 p.m. against the Kootenay Ice. Fans can be a part of history as the Oil Kings raise their first WHL Championship banner of the modern era to the rafters of Rexall Place.
