Oil Kings "Take Two"
Edmonton, AB - A stellar 48 save performance from goaltender Laurent Brossoit helped the Oil Kings to a 6-1 win over the Moose Jaw Warriors in Game 2 of the Husky Eastern Conference Championship on Sunday. With the victory the Oil Kings stretch their winning streak to 21 games and maintain a 2-0 lead in the best of seven series.
20 year old Jordan Peddle got things started for the Oil Kings who would not trail the entire game. Peddle walked a puck out from behind the net and tucked one through the five hole of Moose Jaw goaltender Luke Siemens at 13:19 of the first period.
Midway through the second and the Oil Kings continued to take advantage of their chances as Henrik Samuelsson was able to shovel home his third of the playoffs on a Stephane Legault rebound. Samuelsson repeated his three point effort from Game 1 with a goal and two assists on the night. The two goal lead would be short lived however as the Warriors scored their first power play marker of the series to make it 2-1.
Minutes later with the man advantage Oilers draft pick Marty Gernat found himself on the end of a great backdoor feed from Michael St.Croix to make it a 3-1 game. Edmonton would continue to enjoy a huge effort from Brossoit to hold the two goal lead going into the third.
The Oil Kings would continue to frustrate the Warriors throughout the third before Rookie Curtis Lazar took the puck hard to the net, sacrificed the body and tucked home his sixth of the post season. Lazar continues to lead the Oil Kings in playoff scoring with 14 points, including a goal and an assist on Sunday.
Peddle would add a second on an open net and Rookie Mitch Moroz would round out the Oil Kings scoring with a highlight reel top shelf shot. The 6-1 final matched the final from Game 1 as the Oil Kings have now outscored the Warriors 12-2 in the series. Edmonton's penalty kill was 5 for 6 on the night while the power play was 2 for 6.
