Edmonton, AB – Edgars Kulda got the 6th Annual Dodge Teddy Bear Toss presented by Global Edmonton and Shaw Media off to a great start with the Teddy Bear Toss goal just two minutes into the first period, but the Calgary Hitmen prevailed 5-2 on Friday night at Rexall Place.

FIRST PERIOD

20:00 – Time for the Battle of Alberta, Teddy Bear Toss style! Starting in goal for the home side is Laurent Brossoit, while Cody Corbett and Griffin Reinhart are on defence, with Henrik Samuelsson, Dylan Wruck and Michael St. Croix up front. Game on!

18:00 – GOOOAAAAAL! Edgars Kulda snipes the momentous Teddy Bear Toss goal just two minutes into the first period! The Latvian goes top shelf from a bad angle on goalie Chris Driedger, unassisted, to put the home side up 1-0. Shots are 4-0 Edmonton 120 seconds in.

14:49 – Oil Kings get the first PP of the game as the Hitmen get a bench minor for too many men on the ice. Home side looks to make it a two-goal lead.

10:33 – Physical game escalates into some post-whistle pushing and shoving and the Oil Kings head back to the  PP as Virtanen goes off for checking from behind.

9:02 – GOAL! Curtis Lazar scores his fifth goal in the last three games on the PP to put Edmonton up 2-0 midway through the opening frame. Assists go to Wruck and Stephane Legault. Lazar takes a pass from behind the net from Legault and one-times a slap shot past Driedger.

8:33 – The Hitmen bounce right back as Cody Sylvester blasts a low slap shot short side on Brossoit to cut the score to 2-1 for the Oil Kings.

7:12 – Greg Chase goes off for hooking for the Hitmen, sending the Oil Kings to their third PP of the night.

4:02 – Brossoit makes by far his best save of the game thus far, sliding across the crease and extending his right pad to deny a point-blank Hitmen one-timer.

0:00 – First period concludes with three goals and 32 shots on goal as the Oil Kings (Kulda, Lazar) are doubled up on the Hitmen (Sylvester) 2-1, also leading shots 19-13.

SECOND PERIOD

18:21 – Hitmen head to the PP for four minutes as Musil takes a double-minor for high-sticking.

14:21 – Calgary manages just one shot on goal during their four-minute PP and the Oil Kings continue to have the top penalty kill in the entire WHL.

12:09 – Oil Kings back on the PK as Legault goes off for hooking.

3:50 – After spending a large portion of the middle frame on the PK, the Oil Kings finally get a man advantage of their own as Calgary's Spencer Humphries goes off for hooking.

2:21 – The Hitmen tie the game on a shorthanded three-on-one rush with Carson Samoridny beating Brossoit with a high, hard wrist shot.

0:29 – Keegan Lowe from Edmonton and Sylvester from Calgary get into a shoving match after the whistle in front of the Hitmen bench and each player goes off for roughing.

0:00 – The Oil Kings continue to lead shots 25-18 but the Hitmen score the lone goal of the middle frame, shorthanded, to tie the game 2-2 through 40 minutes.

THIRD PERIOD

9:16 – Still 2-2 midway through the third period, though the Oil Kings had some recent chances. Attendance for the Teddy Bear Toss game is announced at 12,575 and 10,835 stuffed animals have been collected to be donated to 630 CHED Santas Anonymous.

8:10 – Zane Jones takes a pass from Brady Brassart and beats Brossoit with a point blank wrist shot to give the Hitmen their first lead of the night as they go up 3-2.

6:39 – The Oil Kings face a five-on-three penalty kill as Keegan Lowe goes off for delay of game while Mitch Moroz is 21 seconds into his roughing minor.

5:05 – Brossoit keeps the Oil Kings within a goal after a series of fantastic saves during the latter stages of the Hitmen PP.

3:18 – Brossoit makes another huge save, stacking the pads, but Jones buries the rebound for his second goal in two minutes to put the Hitmen up 4-2.

2:18 – The Oil Kings pull Brossoit in favour of an extra attacker and use their 30-second timeout.

0:41 – Pavlo Padakin deflects a pass into the empty net to make it 5-2 Hitmen.

0:00 – Despite falling behind 2-0 early in the first period, the Hitmen rally for five unanswered goals to post a 5-2 win on Oil Kings Teddy Bear Toss night. Brossoit finishes the game with 34 saves while Kulda and Lazar each tally a goal.
