Calgary, AB - Edmonton Oil Kings Assistant General Manager Randy Hansch announced today the Oil Kings selected goaltender Patrick Dea [Day] of the St.Albert Bantam AAA Sabres of the AMBHL with the 22 overall in the 2012 WHL Bantam Draft. Dea was the 2012 AMBHL North Outstanding Goaltender Of The Year and an All-Star in last week's Alberta Cup tournament in Lethbridge. Dea played 1,237 minutes for the Sabres and posted a 12-6-3 record with a 2.96 GAA and a 0.920 save percentage. Dea was the first goaltender selected in this year's draft.

"Patrick Dea a very talented goaltender that we were happy to select in our draft position." said Hansch.  "He's an athletic goaltender who is consistent, constantly competes and challenges the opposition. When you combine all that, he gives his team a chance to win every night."

The Oil Kings traded for Moose Jaw's second round pick.   Edmonton used the 40th overall pick to select forward Andrew Koep [Kepp]. Koep is a 5'7", 140 pound centre who played last season with the Lloydminster Bantam AAA Heat of the AMBHL. He totaled 41 goals, 20 assists for 61 points with 52 penalty minutes in 31 games.

"Andrew Koep is a talented forward who isn't one dimensional." said Hansch "He scores in all areas of the ice, is willing to pay the price to get to those areas and is an honest player with very good skill."

Edmonton did not make a selection in the third round of the draft as this pick was traded to Everett earlier this year for 20 year old Tyler Maxwell. The Oil Kings selected big defenseman Jesse Mills with the 88th pick of the draft. Mills is a 6'4", 188 pound defenceman who played last season with Westside Bantam Tier 2 team in Westside, BC.

In the fifth round, the Oil Kings selected Chance Patterson with the 107th overall pick. The native of Foam Lake, SK played last season with the Bantam AA Yorkton Terriers.

Edmonton had a pair of seventh round picks. The first was forward Garrett Armour, selected 135th overall with the pick acquired from Seattle in exchange for defenceman Braeden Laroque. The second was centre Colton Kehler selected with the 154th pick overall.

In the eighth round, Edmonton selected Leduc, AB native Tristan Starzynski from the Leduc Bantam AAA Oil Kings. The Oil Kings then wrapped the 2012 draft with a pair of defensemen from Saskatchewan; Conner Sych of North Battleford and Brad Bigsby of Saskatoon.

"We're very excited about the group we were able to draft today." said Oil Kings General Manager Bob Green.  "Draft day is the culmination of hours of work by our scouting staff and they deserve a lot of credit for the current success of the team and growth of the franchise."
