St. Croix's Historic Hat-Trick Halts Hitmen 5-2

Dec 08, 2010 - 14:28 MST

Calgary, AB – Edmonton Oil Kings leading scorer Michael St. Croix tallied four points for the second straight game, including a hat-trick, to lead his team to a dominant 5-2 win over the Calgary Hitmen on Wednesday night at the Scotiabank Saddledome.

St. Croix scored the first hat-trick on the road in the modern history of the Oil Kings franchise and added an assist to pace Edmonton to the win over Calgary. His four-point effort on Wednesday came just one game after he scored twice and added two assists as the Oil Kings beat Brandon 8-4 on Friday.

The sophomore sniper now has a remarkable 17 points in his last six games to give him 18 goals and 20 assists on the season. Not surprisingly, the Oil Kings have thrived during St. Croix's hot streak, as they improved their record to 6-1-0-1 in their last eight games and 13-14-0-2 overall on the season.

Not to be outdone on Wednesday were St. Croix's linemate T.J. Foster, who chipped in with one goal and two assists, as well as Oil Kings goalie Jon Groenheyde, who turned aside 24 shots to earn the victory and improve to 5-3-0-1 since joining the team. Marek Hrbas scored the Oil Kings' other goal and added an assist against Calgary, while Josh Lazowski also had two points with a pair of assists.

Alex Roach gave the Hitmen a 1-0 lead just 31 seconds into the first period, and Kris Foucault also scored for the home side early in the second to make it a 2-2 game. But the Oil Kings took over through the final 35 minutes, scoring three times to run away with the victory.
